Eco-Schools Programme - Outdoor Learning

26th Mar 2025

Part of the Eco-Schools Programme is for pupils to take action to improve the school grounds and to create a more stimulating environment.

The children had a wonderful time today planting strawberry plants for their classroom. We can't wait to see how our plants grow and to taste the sweet strawberries they produce.

Planting seeds and watching them grow gives children a sense of purpose and responsibility. Making sure that the plants get enough fertilizer, water and sun fosters mindfulness. The concepts learned while gardening can show children a deep respect and responsibility for taking care of our planet. Studies show that when children have contact with soil during activities like digging and planting, they have improved moods, better learning experiences and decreased anxiety.

We would like to send a big thank you to the Friends of Mullinahoe, our parents and the wider community for all the donations towards our gardening project. Your kindness is greatly appreciated by us! A special word of thanks to Anne-Marie for helping with this activity today.

We look forward to keeping you updated on the progress of our strawberry plants.
