Engineers of the Future -Six Brick Lego Tasks

13th May 2024

Congratulations to Emily, Niamh, Ripley and Scarlett, who worked together to build a solid structure using Lego. The girls created a tower with a very stylish design. They all worked very successfully together and explained their methods to the class with confidence.

Six brick Lego is a group activity that teaches the children a number of important skills.  When children are engaged and challenged in playful ways they practice many skills for learning:

• Language
Describing in rich detail, giving clear instructions, explaining their reasons, which helps to communicate with others and express their ideas.

Problem solving
Trying to stay focused, and remember a task or a challenge, setting goals and making plans. Coming up with creative ideas, and reflecting on what they have completed.

Collaboration
Working together in pairs or teams, sharing turns and the materials. Learning from their peers and their ideas, and giving each other roles and responsibilities.

Activities we played today.

Back to Back Activity

1. Children sit or stand in pairs with the same
three bricks.
2. One child builds a model, and then explains to
the partner how to build the same model.
3. The partner builds without looking or asking
questions.
4. The pairs compare their models and discuss
how it went.

What can you build?

1. Children use their six bricks to build any
creature.
2. Then they take turns to describe their
creature.

Tower Challenge

Working in a group of four, build a tower that will remain standing for 5 minutes and shows a unique design.
