‘The Snow Lambs’ by Debi Gliori
During the month of January, the children in P3 have been reading a selection of winter books. They really enjoyed listening to the story 'The Snow Lambs' by Debi Gliori. The children decided to work together to create a scene from this fictional book and they could certainly relate to the story after Storm Éowyn at the weekend.
The Snow Lambs is about a little boy Sam and his sheepdog Bess. When Bess goes missing one snowy night, Sam imagines all the the terrible things that might have happened to her, his fears running parallel to his own evening activities. As he takes his bath, he thinks of how dirty Bess will be, when she gets home; as he listens to his bedtime story - a tale of monsters! - he hopes Bess isn't as frightened as he is; and when there is a power outage, plunging him into darkness, he wonders how Bess will find her way home, in the dark. Sam thinks he hears Bess in the storm and he runs downstairs to open the front door of the farm house. To his surprise, Sam finds that their sheepdog has guided home the best ewe on the farm to lamb. And later, when the storm is over and the wind has dropped from a howl to a whisper, the kitchen is filled with the sound of newborn bleating.
